Winscott Camping
Eco-friendly, north Devon campsite with spacious pitches, starry skies and Doris - a quirky converted horse lorry for a unique stay.
About: Tucked away in the rolling countryside of north Devon, Winscott Camping feels like a proper escape from the hubbub of everyday life. This is camping stripped back to what really matters, space, fresh air and a genuine connection to nature.
From the moment you arrive, there’s a sense of peace. Pitches are generously spread across a large grassy field, bordered by hedgerows and countryside views, giving you room to properly settle in and unwind.
There’s no over-engineering here, just the essentials done well. You’re never on top of your neighbours and the whole place has a calm, unhurried feel that’s increasingly hard to find.
Facilities are simple but thoughtfully done, with composting toilets, fresh water and a clear focus on keeping things low-impact and environmentally friendly.
Evenings here are a highlight: campfires crackle, the sky darkens into a blanket of stars and there’s a real sense of slowing down.
If you want an authentic, eco-conscious camping experience that lets nature take centre stage, you’ll feel right at home.
For those who want a twist on traditional camping, there’s also Doris, a charming converted horse lorry, that offers a quirky and cosy stay. Perfect if you fancy something a little different without losing that off-grid feel. Doris offers a characterful alternative to pitching your own tent.
Winscott Camping is an ideal base for exploring north Devon, with beautiful beaches, coastal paths and countryside walks, all within easy reach. Wildlife is never far away and the slower pace makes it easy to notice the details. Birdsong in the morning, the breeze through the grass, the changing light across the fields. Whether you’re here for surf, scenery or peace and quiet, Winscott delivers.
Winscott Camping isn’t about luxury in the traditional sense. It’s about reconnecting, with nature, with simple living and with the quiet joy of being outdoors.
Worth Noting: Winscott Camping keeps things deliberately simple. With no electricity on site, bring torches and lanterns. Your freezer blocks can be frozen overnight and returned in the morning. No cars allowed in the camping field means you will need to carry your kit to your pitch. There are steps up to and inside Doris.
